Seung-Hui Cho was a Korean-American student who killed thirty-two people and wounded seventeen others at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States on April 16, 2007, before committing suicide.
Shooting[]
West Ambler Johnston shooting[]
The shooting started at around 7:15am on the 4th floor of the West Ambler Johnston hall, on the Virginia tech campus. Seung-Hui Cho enters the dormatory room of Emily Hillscher, armed with a Glock 19. Seung pulls out his Glock pistol and points at Emily. Emily starts screaming, and backs up under her bed. The screaming caused Ryan Clark to wake up and enter Emily's room. Upon entering, Ryan's immediately shot dead by Seung, and so does Emily a second later, both being shot once. Seung leaves the hall, goes to his on-campus room to change his clothes, and record his manifesto. He would later discard his computer's hard drive and send a package to NBC.
The Norris Hall Attack[]
At around 9:40am, after killing Ryan and Emily, he would enter the second floor of the Norris Hall with a backpack. But before that, he chained the three main exit doors shut. On one of the doors, there was a note that said that a bomb would go off if the door opened. Seung enters the empty classroom of Room 200, gearing up for the attack. He wore a fishing vest that had loaded magazines for both the Glock 19 and Walther P22. Seung Hui Cho then puts down his bag and briefly enters rooms 204, 205, 206, 207, 210 and 211. Seung then puts his backpack down, and now has both pistols on his hands.
The shooter enters Room 206, and begins firing. He shoots 10 people, including professor G. V. Loganathan. Of the 10, 5 are killed (including the professor), and 5 are injured. He then leaves the classroom, and fires at 2 people, hitting Jamal Carver in the arm, and leaving the other not injured. He then enters classroom 207, and shoots and kills German professor Jamie Bishop. He then fires at 10 people, killing 4, and injuring 6 others. 2 other people in the room survived without injuries. He leaves the room, and encounters professors Kevin Granada and Wally Grant. Seung instantly kills Kevin with a shot to the head, and injures Wally with a shot to the back.
2 people (Henry Lee and French professor Jocelyne Couture-Nowak) try to barricade the door of Room 211, but were unsuccesful, and both Henry and Jocelyne end up getting killed. Matthew Laporte runs up towards Seung to tackle him, but ends up getting killed by Seung. Seung then goes around the aisles of the desks, shooting approximately 11 people, killing 3 and injuring 8.
The shooter goes to Room 206 and fires at more people, killing 2 more people who were injured, before leaving the room. He then attempts to enter Room 207, but a few students barricading the doors. Seung fires a few shots at the door, injuring nobody. He then tries to enter Room 205, but again fails because some students and a professor barricaded the doors with a table. Seung fires more rounds at the door, again not injuring anyone. Luckily, nobody was either killed or injured in the classroom. The shooter attempts to enter Room 204, but professor Liviu Librescu barricades the door. Cho overpowers Librescu and kills him. He crosses the room, killing Minal Panchal. The shooter shoots at two people (Justin Klein and Nathaniel Webster), only injuring them.
The shooter re-enters Room 206 and fires at more people, killing an uninjured student, and in total, killing 9 people and injuring 2 others inside Room 206. Seung then goes back to Classroom 211, walking down the aisles to shoot people for the second time, now killing 2 more people and injured 4 others in Room 206. After the shooting, Seung hears the police sirens, looks out the door, then fires a single shot at the already-dead Matthew La Porte. He then kills himself with a shot to the head.
